Sofia A. Funes, DO, MPH is a double-boarded fellowship-trained Neuromusculoskeletal and Sports Medicine physician with a passion for helping patients restore their optimal health by providing a patient-centered approach to treating musculoskeletal conditions. She strongly believes in educating her patients about their conditions and tailoring their non-surgical treatment plans empowering them to play an active role in their healing.
Dr. Funes received her undergraduate degree from the University of Florida in 2012, and her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2016. During her time at NSU, Dr. Funes completed a pre-doctoral fellowship in Anatomy. She completed an internship in General Surgery at Hackensack Palisades Medical Center and a residency in Preventive Medicine at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School. She served as Chief Resident and received a Physician Training Award in Cancer Prevention from the American Cancer Society for her work in colorectal cancer prevention. She went on to complete fellowships in Osteopathic Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine at Larking Community Hospital and Sports Medicine at Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine
Dr. Funes is involved with teaching at Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine as an Adjunct Professor teaching Principles of Clinical Medicine to medical students. As part of her Sports Medicine career, Dr. Funes has helped as a team physician for Nova Southeastern University teams and local High Schools.
