Dr. Casas is a bilingual (English – Spanish) Board Certified Neurosurgeon with over 18 years of experience working with adult men and women of all ages. He performs surgery in all 3 south Florida counties and his office is located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He is committed to treating all conditions related to the spine, specializing in minimally invasive spine surgery (MISS).
Having received his medical doctor degree from the Universidad de la Sabana School of Medicine, Colombia, in 2001, Dr. Casas is well versed in international treatment options. Since then, he’s completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Spinal Cord Injury and Neuroregeneration at the Miami Project to Cure Paralysis through the University of Miami, an internship in general surgery at Jackson Memorial Hospital and the Veterans Affairs Healthcare System for the University of Miami, a residency in neurosurgery at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan, as well as a fellowship in comprehensive spine surgery and radiosurgery at Stanford University School of Medicine in California.
Dr. Casas is known for his comprehensive approach to managing all spinal conditions, brain trauma, and pain. He works with many physicians in the community and is excited to be spearheading the newest treatment options through his practice, at Comprehensive NeuroSpine.
He is a member of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, and the North American Spine Society.
Dr. Casas came to South Florida to enjoy the tropical climate, the beaches, and to be near his family and friends. When he is not working, he enjoys all outdoor activities, and his favorite hobby is diving.

El realiza cirugías en los tres condados del Sur de la Florida y su oficina está localizada en Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Sofia A. Funes, DO, MPH is a double-boarded fellowship-trained Neuromusculoskeletal and Sports Medicine physician with a passion for helping patients restore their optimal health by providing a patient-centered approach to treating musculoskeletal conditions at Fort Lauderdale. She strongly believes in educating her patients about their conditions and tailoring their non-surgical treatment plans empowering them to play an active role in their healing.
Dr. Funes received her undergraduate degree from the University of Florida in 2012, and her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2016. During her time at NSU, Dr. Funes completed a pre-doctoral fellowship in Anatomy. She completed an internship in General Surgery at Hackensack Palisades Medical Center and a residency in Preventive Medicine at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School. She served as Chief Resident and received a Physician Training Award in Cancer Prevention from the American Cancer Society for her work in colorectal cancer prevention. She went on to complete fellowships in Osteopathic Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine at Larking Community Hospital and Sports Medicine at Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine
Dr. Funes is involved with teaching at Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine as an Adjunct Professor teaching Principles of Clinical Medicine to medical students. As part of her Sports Medicine career, Dr. Funes has helped as a team physician for Nova Southeastern University teams and local High Schools.
